Much awaited cabinet expansion of Nitish government in Bihar tomorrow

The wait is finally over and the Nitish Kumar led NDA government in Bihar is going for its first cabinet expansion on Tuesday in Patna.

Bihar deputy chief minister and BJP leader Tarkishor Prasad met CM Nitish Kumar at his residence in the evening and submitted the list of ministers from the BJP’s quota.

As per the CM office, the oath ceremony will take place at 12.30 in the afternoon tomorrow and at 4.30 Nitish Kumar will hold a cabinet meeting with newly included members. As per sources nine new ministers from the BJP and eight new ministers from JD (U) will take oath tomorrow.

Currently there are 13 ministers in the Bihar cabinet including CM Nitish Kumar. Bihar can have a maximum of 36 ministers including the CM. With the cabinet expansion tomorrow, Nitish will still have six vacancies in his cabinet which will be filled going forward.

From the BJP side, senior leader Shahnawaz Hussain is all set to become a minister. Hussain was recently elected for the MLC seat in Bihar. He is currently in Delhi and will reach Patna tomorrow morning. Apart from Hussain, Jhanjharpur MLA Nitish Mishra, Bankipur, Patna MLA Nitin Navin, Niraj Kumr Bablu are the likely names which could find a place in the new cabinet. Bablu is the cousin of film actor Sushant Singh Rajput who died in Mumbai last year.

From the JD (U) side, Shravan Kumar, Jama Khan, Sumit Singh, Sunil Kumar are the names in discussion. Khan had recently joined JD (U) from the BSP. Sources tell ET that lone LJP MLA from Matihani, Raj Kumar Singh is also likely to find a place in the cabinet.

After the expansion BJP will have 16 ministers while JD (U) will have 12 ministers including the chief minister. There is no news of giving any cabinet birth to smaller partners like HAM and VIP in the Tuesday cabinet expansion.

The budget session of the Bihar assembly will start from February 19 and the government will almost have a full strength of the cabinet in place.
