“To provide better facilities to the farmers who come to mandis we are planning to ramp up the infrastructure with all the facilities inside the mandis,” state agriculture minister Kamal Patel told ET. “Farmers usually have to wait for purchase of their produce. The new development will offer ease of selling to farmers.”
The government is looking to develop this project through public-private partnership.“Some of this will be done by the government while we will also invite private players,” said the minister.
Under the project, the government will build a petrol pump and hospital at the mandis, along with a seed centre where farmers can buy seeds. It is planning to invite private players to run farmer canteens on the lines of army canteens where farmers would be sold everything at discounted rates.“This will make the mandi a hub where farmers can get everything they want under one compound,” said Patel. The state government said the mandis will not shut down after the new farm laws are implemented.
