UP’s budget session opened on Thursday amid the Samajwadi Party’s dramatic street protests. Some of its MLAs arrived for the session on tractors carrying sugarcane in solidarity with the ongoing farmers’ agitation and to protest against the state for not increasing the procurement price of sugarcane.

MLAs and senior leaders of SP and Congress staged a protest in the assembly complex with placards and banners which criticised the government over law and order, rising fuel prices and unchanged sugarcane prices.
